myminifactory
The Go!Scan 50 captured high-definition images of this intricate cigarette case at the Mariners’ Museum on July 10, 2018. The accession number for this artifact is 2014.0015, courtesy of the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, Virginia. According to the catalogue description, two lacquered papier-mâché panels are joined with an accordion-like fabric lining, creating a unique and eye-catching design. On one side, an image of a youthful Queen Victoria showcases her elegance, wearing an ermine cape with red sleeves, a brown bodice, and a green sash around her waist. Her hair is styled in ringlets on either side of her face, parted perfectly in the center. The reverse side depicts a sailor in a striking red and white striped shirt, pale-colored pants, a blue sash around his waist, and a red cap, branding a slave on his right shoulder. A young sailor holding a lantern stands to the right, with his shirt tied around his waist, wearing green pants. A whip lies on the ground behind him. This object was meticulously scanned by the Virtual Curation Lab.
