New Zealand houses 42 unique cicada species, making it a notable location globally. In 2009, these creatures inspired an art project called "Ghosts in the Form of Gifts," commissioned by Massey University Wellington, New Zealand. The series won the 2010 Award for Open Source in the Arts (NZ). This creative endeavor envisioned replicas of lost or misregistered artifacts from the Museum of New Zealand's time at Buckle St. Now occupied by Massey University's College of Creative Arts, the objects were created through drawing, digital 3D rendering, and RepRap printing. The digital files for these artefacts are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike license and freely available for educational use. Search using the tag "Ghosts in the Form of Gifts" to explore more objects from this series; credits go to Bronwyn Holloway-Smith and Rhys Dippie.
