Château de Vêves (implantation)
sketchfab
The Chateau de Vêves is situated in the commune of Houyet (Province of Namur - Walloon Region of Belgium). The origins of this fortress castle date back to the second half of the 7th century. Pepin of Herstal built a villa there which was later transformed into a small fortress by his successors in the 9th century. This fortress was razed in 1200 and rebuilt in 1220 by the Beaufort family who made it a more powerful castle. Destroyed by the Dinantais in the 15th century, the castle was restored immediately, but it had to endure the ravages caused by the French revolutionaries in 1793. In the 18th century, the Liedekerke-Beaufort family restored the castle giving it its current appearance. It is one of Belgium's most beautiful medieval castles.
