The Castle of Vêves is located in the municipality of Houyet (Province of Namur - Region of Wallonia, Belgium).\nThe origins of this castle-fort date back to the second half of the VIIth century. Pepin of Herstal raised a villa here which was later transformed into a small fortress by his successive successors in the IXth century. This fortress was destroyed in 1200 and rebuilt in 1220 by the Beaufort family who made it a more powerful castle.\nDestroyed by the people of Dinant in the 15th century and restored immediately, the castle had to endure the ravages caused in 1793 by French revolutionaries.\nThe Liedekerke-Beaufort family restored the castle in the XVIIIth century, giving it its current appearance.\nThe castle is one of the most beautiful medieval castles in Belgium.
