Located at 443 meters of altitude at the end of a crest, the Ortenbourg Castle, built between 1260 and 1265 by Rudolf of Habsburg, is one of the most beautiful ruins in the Rhine Valley. Masterpiece of military architecture with its high collar surrounding a 32-meter-tall keep, it is visible from afar and blends remarkably into the landscape. This keep offered six levels of defense fire and its pentagonal design allowed for better deflecting projectiles from attackers. The association "The Ortenbourg Sentinels", recently created, aims to safeguard, promote, and animate the castle.
