The fortified castle, characterized by its two towers, dominates the Kirneck Valley to the north and the Barr Valley to the south, which is part of the Andlau River valley. The upper castle, without a courtyard, was built by the lords of Andlau between 1337 and 1344. The entrance was designed as a series of traps against the enemy.
