The medieval church stands tall as a prominent structure in its rich history since its construction began in the late thirteenth century. Despite starting work back then, most of the building was finished between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries in an elegant Gothic style. The unique design features three naves with a large central nave built using masonry techniques. Its pillars supporting Gothic vaults stand alongside two side chapels next to the presbytery and another two near the Epistle side, along with a Renaissance choir. Noticeable inside are the sacristy door, made by Alonso de Torralba in 1525 using pilasters platerescas arches; the fourteenth-century apse covered by a vault on one side features a chapel of Christ and San Miguel across from it, built in the sixteenth century. Notably also is Roque Balduque's Renaissance cedarwood altarpiece made for the main altar in 1551; there is also a collection of liturgical objects dating from XV to XIX centuries. The marble holy water font located near the entrance is from the fourteenth century, and one finds numerous gravestones, tombs, and sarcophagi within its walls. Outside stands the bronze statue of San Pedro de Alcantara at the tower's base, created by Perez Comendador's skilled hand.
