Historically speaking, construction on this impressive structure began as early as 1898 under the skilled guidance of Cura Brochero. Progress accelerated significantly in 1902 when it was completed following a tornado that had initially devastated the roof, forcing repairs to be expedited once again. Established in 1864 by Father Francisco Aguirre, this town originated under the name Villa del Transito, later undergoing a renaming ceremony to become known as Villa Cura Brochero on the second anniversary of Jose Gabriel del Rosario Brochero's passing in 1916. At its core is an Argentine Catholic priest named Brochero (1814-1914) who had made it his mission to provide immense benefit for both the people and this specific geographic area upon his arrival at Villa del Transito in 1870. Amongst many projects undertaken during his time here, notable accomplishments include a Retreat House, a school dedicated exclusively to girls, construction of cart tracks in the West Valley known as Los Chiflones, as well as an aqueduct providing vital supplies to the entire town and multiple irrigation canals used for crops and agricultural needs. In addition to this remarkable work ethic, he also contributed with his presence at the development of several other buildings. Due to advanced age and worsening health complications, he ultimately decided it would be wise to relocate from the parish before a devastating event changed everything. Following impassioned requests from the locals to have him return and share their struggles through hard times alongside them during that tragic incident where Brochero sadly passed away with failing vision due to being afflicted with leprosy blindness inside one of these beautiful constructions where his spirit still resonates strongly even now after he has been laid at rest here amongst those faithful parishioners whose trust earned his place as such venerated figure throughout centuries – becoming ‘Venerable’ indeed in 2004 thanks to an official declaration signed off by none other than His Holiness Pope John Paul II.
