Chrysler Building Eagle Gargoyle
thingiverse
This is a 3D model of the iconic Art Deco stainless steel eagle gargoyles adorning the Chrysler Building in New York City. I initially created this design in Sketchup with the intention of manufacturing it from sheet metal, which resulted in slightly blockier shapes compared to the actual sculpture. The model displayed here was printed at a 35% scale using a layer height of 0.15 mm. UPDATE (09-MAR-2017): The original OBJ file contained some defects including disconnected faces and flipped normals, thanks to Sketchup's quirks. The new STL file is now completely manifold. UPDATE (26-NOV-2017): A decimated version of the object file has been added, reducing its size by about 25%. This smaller file should be more suitable for printing. Print Settings Printer Brand: Ultimaker Printer: Ultimaker Original Rafts: No Supports: Yes Resolution: 0.15 mm or less Infill: 10% Notes: Rotate the model to have the nose pointing upwards, which will minimize supports and make printing easier. I originally designed this in Sketchup with card stock or sheet metal in mind, so I created shapes that could be transformed into flat patterns for manufacturing.
