Chrysippus of Soli, a Greek Stoic thinker, lived around 279 to 206 BC. Born in Soli, Cilicia, he moved to Athens as a young adult and became a student of Cleanthes at the Stoic school. Upon Cleanthes' death, roughly 230 BC, Chrysippus took over as the third leader of the school. As a highly productive writer, Chrysippus developed the core ideas of Zeno of Citium, the founder of the school, earning him the title of Second Founder of Stoicism. This style of bust is a typical representation of the philosopher, and another copy can be found at The British Museum in London. These works are replicas from the Augustan era (23 BC to AD 14) of an original created during the late 3rd Century BC, which has since been lost.
