Christmas is just around the corner, and this is my special contribution. I wanted to use up the extra LEDs I had for the Wind Turbine medium model, which were flashing in different modes. So, I decided to add them to a Christmas tree. Here's a link to a video of my project: https://youtu.be/B2nvWs3Sqds This design is quite simple and based on five-pointed stars. It requires 3V power and has three sections. You can adjust the middle section so that all the points don't line up perfectly. For me, one LED per section was enough, but you can add more wherever you like - just connect them to a 3V source and they'll flash. I used small wires from LAN cables to create this project, along with a switch at the bottom that connects to a battery. This allows you to turn it on or off easily. The spacers were designed separately from the tree sections so that I could find the best way for the light to propagate through them. All parts were printed without supports as a challenge - but you can print them with supports if you prefer. I printed the tree sections with the top on the bed, which made it easier to assemble everything. To put it all together, start by adding some pics of the assembly process so that you can see how it works. Then, fit the spacers onto the star points and glue them in place. Use the LED supports to attach the LEDs, add some glue to hold them secure, and connect the wires. Connect the three LEDs in parallel and test them with a battery. Once you've got everything working, fit the LED supports into the spacers and assemble the three sections together. Print the lower tree section in brown, for example, and then attach it to the rest of the tree. Use two wood screws, 3x12 mm, to secure the base. At this point, don't forget to add a finishing touch - a flat star shape to close off the lower tree section. Then, add the top yellow star and battery, and you're all set! Some glue might be needed during the assembly process. I had a lot of fun designing and building this project, and it's my third version because the previous two didn't quite turn out as planned. My wife saw it, and now I've got some orders to fill - but don't worry, there are plenty more flashing LEDs where those came from! Happy Christmas, 3D builders! This model was designed using SOLIDWORKS and printed on my stock CR10 with filaments from Ariane Plast. The LEDs were sourced from eBay.
