A holiday ornamentation piece is one of many types of decoration used during Christmastime and the larger winter festival. The traditional colors for the holidays are pine green (evergreen), snow white, and heart red. Blue and white often represent winter, or occasionally Hanukkah, which occurs at roughly the same time. Gold and silver are also extremely popular, as are other shiny hues. Common images on holiday decorations include Baby Jesus, Santa Claus, Father Christmas, and the Bethlehem star. Traditional winter icons include snowflakes, snowmen, icicles, and even penguins and polar bears. Many nations, such as Sweden, start setting up their Advent and holiday decorations on the first day of Advent. In a liturgical sense, this is done in some parishes through a Hanging of Greens ceremony. In Western Christianity, the two traditional days for removing holiday decorations are Twelfth Night and, if they're not taken down on that day, Candlemas, the latter of which marks the end of the Christmas-Epiphany season in some denominations. Leaving the decorations up beyond Candlemas has historically been viewed as ill-fated.
