Christ the Redeemer, situated atop Corcovado mountain in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is a 39.6-meter (130 ft) tall Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ. It stands on a 9.5-meter pedestal and measures 30 meters wide, weighing 635 tonnes. Considered the world's largest Art Deco statue, it is also the fifth-largest statue of Jesus. The statue serves as a symbol of Brazilian Christianity and an icon for Rio de Janeiro and Brazil. Constructed between 1922 and 1931 from reinforced concrete and soapstone, this open-armed representation of Jesus signifies peace.
