Christ the Redeemer is a remarkable Art Deco statue of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It was considered the world's largest Christ statue from 1931 until 2010 when it was surpassed by the Christ the King statue in Poland. Standing at an impressive 30 metres (98 ft) tall, not including its 8 metre pedestal, and with arms stretching 28 metres (92 ft) wide, this iconic structure is a wonder to behold. The massive statue weighs 635 tonnes (625 long, 700 short tons), and is proudly situated atop the 700-metre (2,300 ft) Corcovado mountain in the Tijuca Forest National Park, overlooking the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro. As a symbol of Brazilian Christianity, Christ the Redeemer has become an iconic representation of the country and its capital city. Made from reinforced concrete and soapstone, this magnificent statue was constructed between 1922 and 1931. It is an integral part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory, which aims to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access. The Scan the World project is an open-source community effort, where anyone can contribute interesting items from their surroundings.
