Christ Falls Beneath the Cross
myminifactory
Human: A majestic oak carving, rendered in high relief across five distinct sections. Christ, fallen to both knees, extends his right arm to prevent total collapse. The Cross on his left shoulder is grasped firmly by his left hand and supported by the robust figure of Simon of Cyrene behind him. Standing with his back to the viewer in a classic contrapposto stance, Simon holds the foot of the Cross securely with both hands and rests it against the thigh of his right leg. His bearded face is tilted upwards to the right, etched with anguish. Dressed in attire à la mode, he wears a hat atop his head. A skilled artist from the Flemish school in Antwerp, Southern Netherlands.
