Chochin-obake Paper Lantern Yokai
thingiverse
This is my little chochin-obake, or paper lantern monster, this little tsukumogami is part of a series I am working on in which I hope to reproduce characters from the Hyakki Yagyo-emaki, one of the oldest graphical representations of the Japanese Hyakki Yagyo, trans. Night Parade of One-Hundred Demons. While the chochin-obake is not clearly represented in the emaki, this little yokai is one guy is one of the most well known traditional Japanese yokai. More traditionally chochinobake is more associated with the story of Oiwa from the Yotsuya Kaidan story, a very traditional Kabuki drama about a Oiwa and her haunting of her unfaithful and odious husband Iemon. This was made in tinkercad so its a little blocky but I hope you like it. Instead of doing a more traiditional tongue I wanted to use the program's strengths to give its tongue more of the feeling of a shaped piece of bamboo. Either way I hope you enjoy this haunted little light of mine.
