Chohun is the name given to this distinctive type of palanquin. It was commonly carried by high-ranking officials during the Joseon Dynasty. The design features a wheel-mounted chair, with two or four attendants expertly navigating around their seated superior. Average people might struggle to comprehend such an arrangement. However, in 16th-century Joseon, where nearly 80% of the population consisted of slaves, it's hardly surprising that multiple servants were required to carry just one officer. The fact that enslaved children were also used as domestic labor only adds to the complexity of this societal norm.
