
Chmutov surface - math

The Chmutov surface of degree 6 boasts a unique equation: 32*x^6 + 32*y^6 + 32*z^6 - 48*x^4 - 48*y^4 - 48*z^4 + 18*x^2 + 18*y^2 + 18*z^2 - 2. This surface features an impressive 54 singular points, as illustrated in fig.0. Due to printing limitations, I've added spheres to all double points, as shown in fig.1. Even with these modifications, the PLA and my modest printer struggled to produce a satisfactory print (STL file "chmutov+boules-lisse.stl"). To overcome this challenge, I opted for a slightly similar shape that thickens towards the singular points (STL file "chmutov-new.stl"), yielding a printable part. 3MF files can be converted to STL using the free software "3DBuilder".
