Displayed at the Museum für Abgüsse Klassischer Bildwerke in Munich is a stunning collection of classical paintings and sculpture. The museum showcases an impressive array of sculptures from ancient Greece and Rome, spanning the 7th century BC to the 5th century AD. The focal point of the collection is on the masterpieces of Hellenistic sculpture from the time of Alexander the Great and Roman portrait art from the late republic to late antiquity. While marble and bronze works by the Greeks and Romans are scattered throughout museums worldwide, the original plaster casts can be found in two enormous 18-meter-high halls bathed in natural light.
