Chiquita is a small brown mare that belongs to a family in Costa Rica. They use her for transportation through the jungle and to the local store, where she also helps carry the children to school as well as carrying firewood and doing agricultural work around the farm. Chiquita's owners receive education about her care, which benefits her directly with hoof care, vaccinations, and worming. She is involved in the World Horse Welfare project, and they provide equipment fitting lessons and a care pack with new saddle pads. The master sculpture itself was created by acclaimed artist Judy Boyt based on the story of Lucas, a frozen and abandoned foal who was rescued by World Horse Welfare and has flourished into a beautiful sport horse.
