Chipped Knife Unveiled in Stanly County, North Carolina The chipped knife is a remarkable find from the Hardaway site (31St4) in Stanly County, North Carolina, dating back to the Early Archaic period (8000-6000 BC). Crafted from metavolcanic rock, this ancient tool boasts impressive dimensions: length, 106.5 mm; width, 33.4 mm; and thickness, 9.3 mm. The artifact was generously donated by Herbert M. Doerschuk to the North Carolina Archaeological Collection at the Research Laboratories of Archaeology, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
