I recently upgraded a small Chinese telescope I purchased from Bang Good with several improvements. Initially, the spotting scope holder was useless because it relied on three screws in one plane, which allowed the scope to move after adjustment and made it impossible to maintain the setting. To rectify this issue, I crafted a custom holder that secured the scope with six screws in two planes, ensuring that once adjusted, the setting remained stable. To further enhance functionality, I raised the holder slightly above its original position, providing more space when looking through the scope. Additionally, I created a lens cover for the spotting scope because observing the sun with a solar filter requires extra caution - leaving the spotting scope open and pointed at the sun is hazardous. My telescope arrived with a defective eyepiece, which I replaced with a 1.25-inch diameter alternative since 1.25-inch parts are more readily available. To make use of this new eyepiece, I developed an adaptor that allowed me to integrate it seamlessly into my setup. Next on the agenda is upgrading the telescope's mount by attaching it to a high-quality photographic tripod, as the current mounting system is too unstable for precise observations.
