Chinese Double Happiness Symbol

This is the “double happiness” symbol which is not an official Chinese character but rather a symbol of a happy marriage or more generally a symbol of happiness and quality of life. It is made up of 2 copies of the 喜 (xǐ; happiness) Chinese character which when merged together results in the shuāngxǐ 囍 (literally “a pair of happiness characters” or “double happiness”) symbol. Some say that the proper way to express the symbol is not to simply have 2 喜 characters side by side but rather to have them connected by the two strokes in the middle as I’ve represented in this model. There are 2 versions (with and without a loop which I made to facilitate hanging) that are stylized with the double happiness symbol in Chinese calligraphy enclosed within a circle.The double happiness symbol is commonly used in weddings (e.g., invitations, wedding favors, decorations) or placed in the home where it is most commonly seen in the master bedroom, either on the wall above the bed or in the southwest corner of the master bedroom according to common feng shui practices.
