Monk's Spade, commonly known as Shaolin Spade, was an antique Chinese instrument wielded by monks, consisting of three primary components: A Long Pole, A Flat Spade attached at one end, and a Crescent Shaped Blade at the other. Neither blade was intended to be sharpened. In ancient China, Buddhist monks frequently carried spades with them during travel. This dual-purpose arrangement served two crucial functions: When they encountered a corpse on the road, they could bury it with proper Buddhist rites, and the large instrument could serve as a defensive weapon against bandits. The Crescent Blade was designed to repel small to medium-sized predators such as wild dogs and leopards. Operating this weapon involved positioning the crescent at the animal's neck, holding it back, or pushing it away if necessary.
