The majestic sculpture is one of a pair of ancient steel lions situated within the breathtaking Yu Garden in Shanghai, China. This renowned classical garden is nestled along Anren Jie, a prominent street in Shanghai. Completed in 1577 by Pan Yunduan, a distinguished government officer from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the garden was specifically designed for his parents to indulge in peaceful and joyful moments during their twilight years. The steel lion at hand was forged in 1292, during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), by skilled blacksmith Zhao Zhang on behalf of Henan Anyang's local government. In the 1950s, these remarkable sculptures were relocated and placed within Yu Garden, where they continue to awe visitors with their timeless grandeur.
