The Yingxian Timber Pagoda soars majestically in the Temple of Buddha's Palace, situated to the northwest of Yingxian County. Constructed in 1056 AD, this colossal structure stands an impressive 67.31 meters tall and boasts a diameter of 30 meters. Its grandeur is undeniable, making it not only China's largest timber pagoda but also one of its most ancient treasures. The State Council recognized the pagoda's significance by designating it a key historical relic in 1961, underscoring its importance as an architectural masterpiece. The pagoda's unique design and intricate structure are hallmarks of exceptional craftsmanship. Its frame features an octagonal cross-section, composed entirely of solid wooden parts skillfully joined together through an elaborate system of brackets, comprising 54 different types. This complex framework is further reinforced by additional supports, showcasing the ingenuity of Liao Dynasty architects. Perched atop a 3-meter-high base with two layered and six-eaved tiers, the pagoda itself comprises nine stories, including mezzanines. The striking octagonal roof is capped by an iron cone measuring 11 meters in height, seamlessly integrating with the pagoda's body. Wooden staircases connect various floors, while external railings on the second floor and above provide breathtaking views for visitors. At ground level, a resplendent golden statue of Sakyamuni stands proudly, surrounded by frescoes adorning the inner walls. Statues adorn every story, further demonstrating the artistic prowess of the Liao Dynasty. Despite withstanding numerous calamities, including three devastating earthquakes and bombardment from over 200 artillery shells during wars between warlords, the pagoda remains an unyielding testament to its builders' skill.
