Chinese 40W Laser Cutter Exhaust Mods
thingiverse
The faulty exhaust fan that came with this $295 Chinese Laser from EBay simply does not seal properly, prompting me to create a custom backplate using the laser cutter itself from a piece of 1/4 inch plywood (ExhaustPanel.svg), featuring a hole perfectly aligned with the rectangular slot in the back. I also designed and 3D printed an exhaust slot to 4-inch pipe adapter (LaserExhaustAdapter.stl) that fits snugly into place when assembled, while excess edges were secured with packaging tape. The original front exhaust plenum was too long and obstructed the X-axis, so I employed a Rotozip saw to cut away 50mm of unnecessary material. This left behind an unsightly jagged edge, which I subsequently addressed by outfitting the exhaust intake with two custom 3D printed beauty covers (LaserExhaustIntake.stl) in black, designed to both conceal and minimize the risk of cutting my fingers on the edges. These covers were specifically created for a 200mm x 20mm exhaust plenum opening.
