Chimpanzee Hip Skeleton - Ball-and-Socket Joint
sketchfab
The hip joint of a chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) is showcased in this fluid-preserved specimen from the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. The head of the femur serves as the ball in the ball-and-socket joint that forms the hip. This detailed model was created by Karina Riddell using Volumegraphics VGStudioMax 3.3 software to reconstruct a CT scan produced at the Yale Translational Research Imaging Center (Y-TRIC). The model was designed to complement educational materials developed during the UF Center for Precollegiate Education and Training workshop "3D Vertebrates: From Museum Shelves to Classrooms." Funding for scanning and modeling of this specimen came from the oVert project at the University of Florida, which is supported by NSF grant DBI 1701714.
