Child's Knife Finger Guard

Child's Knife Finger Guard Author: Donald L. Merand What It Does If you have a kid who's learning how to use a knife in the kitchen, this clever device helps them learn proper left-hand technique without cutting their fingers. My model, designed in Onshape, is fully customizable if you want to adjust it. This project is very much inspired by this finger guard. I made my own because I wanted a specific size and shape tailored to my kid's fingers, and also because hot pink wasn't an option. Accordingly, this model is sized for a 6-year-old's fingers, and you might need to resize the finger holders if your child is older. By the way, the black rubbery stuff inside is a high-friction rubber material that I bought at Lee Valley years ago. It helps for knuckle comfort on the inside. You should get some, because it's more useful than you'd think. I use it all the time! How to Make One My recommendation is to 3D print in food-safe plastic, though standard PLA is probably fine too because this won't really be coming into contact with anything but your child's hands if it's being used correctly. I printed mine at a layer height of 0.2mm, with supports under the little finger guards, in the default orientation, and it worked perfectly on the first try!
