Not because of the grand kids but of someone else we needed to protect the door to the kitchen/pantry. Always using the key and hiding it somewhere was a bit to much. That's why I designed a very simple but so far effective protection. An inner sleeve is mounted on the 8mm square bar. Around this another sleeve is installed which has a button in it. If this is pressed when the button is facing downwards it locks into a slot of the inner sleeve and the door can be opened. Either a handle/lever or a knob can be attached to it. The knob has the advantage that it can be operated with one hand. Printed in PLA, but any hard material will do, with 0.3mm layers, support everywhere except for knob/handle. 1.6mm walls and 15% cubic infill with dual lines. The button I printed with 2mm walls. Install the M5 nut in the inner sleeve first. This is best done with a longer M5 screw. Nut on it, thru the hole and the inner nut on it. Now tighten the external nut which will pull the inner nut into position. Unscrew the screw and insert an M5 grub screw. Insert the button into the outer sleeve from inside. After this the inner sleeve goes into the outer one and push it on the 8x8mm shaft of the door with the nut/grub screw facing upwards. Tighten the grub screw. Attach knob or handle with four 4x35mm flathead screws. Ready to try it out.
