Chiesa Santa Maria Di Gesù - Piazza Armerina
sketchfab
The 17th-century Church of S. Maria di Gesù is situated at the outskirts of the inhabited center. It belongs to the eponymous convent accompanied by the old cemetery in Piazza Armerina. In the spacious square, a stone cross stands on a high brick foundation with an inscription: 1662. The church's exterior features a two-story loggia: in the lower part, both columns (square section) and arches are made of bricks; the flooring, in fish-scale patterned bricks laid at an angle, the dome-shaped roof, and the walls have painted areas. The entrance is located on the long side of the single covered nave with a vaulted ceiling adorned with frescoes and paved with white and blue ceramic tiles recently installed. Opposite the entrance, a wooden altar recess features a finely crafted panel surrounding a painting depicting the Madonna with Child. To the right of the entrance, an archway and a wooden balustrade separate the apse from the nave. Link to the Sacristy: https://skfb.ly/6YIDS
