It was a beautiful day outside, with a radiant sun shining brightly in the sky. The Logan Elm, located near Circleville in Pickaway County, Ohio, stood tall at an impressive 65 feet high (20 m) and boasted a massive trunk circumference of 24 feet (7.3 m). Its expansive crown stretched out an astonishing 180 feet (55 m), making it one of the largest American elm trees (Ulmus americana) ever recorded. Unfortunately, the tree was severely weakened by Dutch Elm Disease and succumbed to storm damage in 1964. However, its legacy lives on through the Logan Elm State Memorial, which commemorates the site and preserves various associated markers and monuments. According to historical accounts, Chief Logan of the Mingo tribe delivered a powerful speech at a peace-treaty meeting under this very elm tree in 1774. This impassioned address is said to be one of the most famous speeches ever given by a Native American, now famously known as "Logan's Lament".
