This is a replica of a statue honoring Chief Little Turtle located along the south bank of the Ohio River and the west bank of the Licking River in Covington, Kentucky. \nChief Little Turtle lived from 1752 until 1812. The monument highlights the following about him:\n“This illustrious Miami war chief fought to safeguard the Indian hunting grounds of Kentucky and the villages of southern Ohio from the relentless advance of American settlers. Little Turtle twice led a coalition of Miami, Shawnee and Delaware Indians in triumph against American forces. In October 1790 he defeated an American army led by General Josiah Hamer. In November 1791 he conquered an army led by General Arthur St. Clair. Between battles, Little Turtle hunted and fished in this region of northern Kentucky.\nFollowing the defeat of the Indians at Fallen Timbers in 1794, Little Turtle joined signing the Treaty of Greenville in 1795. He declared, ‘I am the last to sign it, and will be the last to break it.’ He honored his promise.”
