In 1930, General Motors introduced its first pickup truck, with the "Silverado" trim name being used for Chevrolet C/K pickup trucks and Suburbans between 1975 and 1999. GMC, on the other hand, employed various versions of the "Sierra" title (Sierra, High Sierra, Sierra Grande, Sierra Classic) to distinguish different trim levels up until 1987, while maintaining the "C/K" nomenclature through 1999. Here, "C" (or "R" in 1987) denoted rear-wheel drive trucks, whereas "K" (or "V" in 1987) represented four-wheel drive models. The "R/V" designation was continued from 1988 to 1991 to distinguish older platform trucks still being produced alongside the new T400 platform C/K. However, Chevrolet and GMC discontinued the "C" and "K" labels in 1999, with Chevrolet continuing to use the CK and CC codes in their current model designations.
