This small horse was found in 1886 within a cave-in of the Espélugues Cave (Lourdes, Hautes-Pyrénées). Numerous other tools and decorated objects were also uncovered in this cave-shelter. The statuette of a horse was discovered at the end of the 19th century in the Espélugues Cave at Lourdes in the Hautes-Pyrénées. This discovery dates back to the Magdalenian period, approximately -15,000 years ago. The figurine is made from mammoth ivory, a rare material in Western Europe, and showcases exceptional skill in sculpture and engraving.
