Chetro Ketl, North Wall, Chaco Canyon

This fortification appears to have been assaulted and reinforced multiple times, suggesting a harsh environment with limited resources available. This structure is part of a larger model, and while it represents one city complex, numerous similar locations exist within an hour's walk. Chetro Ketl boasts the second-largest great house in the canyon by room count (approximately 400 ground and upper-story), and the largest in surface area (over 5.7 acres or 2.3 hectares). The great house may have reached four stories along sections of its north side. Along the north wall of the pueblo, Chacoans built an unusual balcony.
