Terrestrial LiDAR scan of a Quercus castaneifolia, a chestnut-leaved oak located in Kew Gardens, London, precisely estimated its height at 36.48 meters using the TLS technology, a significant improvement over previous estimates of approximately 35 meters. The tree was captured by Phil Wilkes (@kungphil) and Mathias Disney (@mathiasdisney), experts from UCL Geography (@UCLgeography) and NCEO (@NCEOScience), utilizing a RIEGL VZ400 with a top-mounted RGB camera. Additionally, some code from Matheus Boni Vicari (@BoniVicari) was incorporated to enhance color accuracy. The original point cloud boasted an impressive 39 million plus points; however, it has been downscaled for optimal display on SketchFab.
