Chest of Meleager in the Ny Carlsberg Glyptotek Copenhagen, Denmark
myminifactory
In Greek mythology, Meleager was a hero who received great honor in his temple at Calydon in Aetolia for hosting the famous Calydonian boar hunt, an epic event that was retold by Homer. This impressive torso fragment is identified as a representation of the legendary Hero. It bears a striking resemblance to the 5th century sculpture created by Skopas of Paros, which features a figure standing with weight on their right leg and a hand resting behind their right hip with palm up. A distinctive detail that confirms its identity is the torso wearing a chlamys fastened with a brooch on the right shoulder and draped over the left arm, holding a boar spear in their left hand. This remarkable object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit project launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe that are accessible for free.
