ChessLine. Compact minimalistic chess set
prusaprinters

I made another version of the field for a compact chess set. Here, as in previous projects, everything needed for the game is collected in a small volume and the kit is completely printed on a printer. In this chess, as in the previous ones, the figures are inserted one inside the other, and also adjoin their heads to each other (like a thorn and a groove). But this time I came up with the idea of breaking the cells of the chessboard into 8 pieces, which are stored inside the chess pieces. Assembling the field and preparing for the game takes an extremely short time (however, it takes a little longer to assemble the game).
The pieces are quite large - their diameter is 26 mm (pawns - 19.6 mm).
The figures of bishops are made in the form of a miter, a rook - a tower, and for horses (knights-riders) I used a saddle silhouette.

No support is required for printing chess pieces, board parts and adapters, and no gluing or processing is required. Figures and caps-retainers (two of them are required) are connected by frictional force. Can be printed with PLA, PETG or other materials. For high-quality printing of adapters and most figures, a layer thickness of 0.2 is sufficient. Some of them (for example, knights) have smooth bends at the top, for them the best result with a smooth surface is obtained with a layer thickness of 0.7. And for parts with flat surfaces, you should enable smoothing.
When printing a field, a single filament change is required. At the same time, for reprint (if you do not print 8 parts at once, but for example, 4 as I did), you do not need to change the filament before printing - it doesn't matter which color of the cells is printed first. Please note that before installing the parts of the field in the clips, they must be connected in pairs like a thorn and a groove:

Check out another project of mine - the most compact ChessPoint chess set where you can create any configuration of the field and the arrangement of chess pieces:
