Chess Set: Men
thingiverse
I'm going to create my own travel chess set from scratch. They'll require some adjustments to make them easier to print using 3D printing technology. The orange PLA I'm using is cheap, but it's also quite soft and sticky. Revision: I've printed the chess men on my K8200 3D printer, and I'm always surprised by how well some of them turn out while others don't. Sometimes, they print better than I expect them to. Right now, I'm busy working on Revision A to improve their design and printability. Revision A1: I've added a small base to each piece so they're easier to pick up and display off the board. I've also used Humbrel paints to add color and detail to the pieces. In retrospect, I wish I had bought two different colors of PLA because cleaning and painting these pieces has been quite time-consuming. Revision A11: I made some improvements to the design of the queen and knight pieces. Revision B1: (using yellow PLA prints) The small chess piece was printed at 200% scale using Slic3er, while the larger one was printed at 300%. My old Velleman K8200 3D printer handled the fine details of the smaller print surprisingly well. The queen piece could be simplified a bit, but I'm happy with how the scaled 300% print turned out.
