Chess Set I

Chess Set I

thingiverse

The Staunton-style chess set features traditional knight pieces that require careful design to achieve a recognizable horse-bust without exceeding maximum overhang angles. As of now, the printer for this project is not yet available; thus, while models have been sliced and tool paths inspected, actual printing on hardware has not been verified. Feedback from chess enthusiasts with printers would be greatly appreciated. All pieces can be used straight out of the printer, except the King who traditionally sports a cross on his crown. This detail prints beside him and needs to be glued in place (a divot is provided). The pieces are mathematically lathed, resulting in perimeter loops with numerous vertices which could cause printing issues if your printer slows down in high-detail areas; MakerBot users have reported good results using an SD card and poor ones over serial.
