Chess pieces with board

Having designed a set of chess pieces, I wanted to try printing the board as well. I first attempted to print the board in four quarters, but they curled badly at the corners when fitted onto my Makerbot printer's plate, so I redesigned the board into 16 separate pieces. The assembled board measures 37cm square and 1.25cm high. The white base consists of eight distinct parts, each with projecting pegs that fit snugly into slots in adjacent pieces. Assembling them requires a specific order, as illustrated in the diagram above. To avoid confusion, it's best to label each piece with its number as it is printed. To create this chess board, you'll need to print two of each white base component, 32 black squares, and four black edging strips. Start by assembling all the white parts in their correct positions, then insert the black edging strips into their slots, and finally place the 32 black squares into recesses within the white base. I used Lepage's 'Ultra Gel' superglue to bond all the pieces together securely. Mounting the assembled board onto a sheet of sturdy card greatly enhances its appearance. Flocked card with a velvet-like finish on one side would prevent scratching on polished surfaces. The tallest chess piece (King) stands at 7cm tall, while the shortest (Pawn) measures only 4cm in height. Each piece features a 2.5cm diameter base. Printing Details: All pieces were printed using default settings: layer height of 0.20mm, 10% infill, and two shells on a raft. The white base components took between two hours and one hour and forty-five minutes to print. Black edging strips printed in just thirty-seven minutes each, while black squares required twenty-five minutes each. Chess pieces ranged from fifty-six minutes (King) to thirty-nine minutes (Pawn) for the entire printing process. Visit my designs on https://www.thingiverse.com/Winslow/designs for more creations.
