Chess Pieces
grabcad
Simple chess pieces are made up of six different types: king, queen, rook, bishop, knight, and pawn. Each piece has its own unique movement capabilities on a square chessboard. The king can move one square in any direction - horizontally, vertically, or diagonally - but it cannot jump over other pieces. It is the most important piece because if your king gets captured, you lose the game. The queen is the most powerful piece and can move anywhere along a rank, file, or diagonal on the board. She is able to capture pieces in any direction as well. Rooks are similar to bishops but they can only move horizontally or vertically. They also have the ability to castle with the king if neither has moved previously. Bishops move diagonally across the board and can capture any piece that gets in their way. Knights move in an L-shape, two squares in one direction and then one square to the side. They are able to jump over other pieces. Pawns start at the second row of the board and move forward one square on their first move, but after that they can only move forward one square unless they capture a piece diagonally in front of them. Each type of chess piece has its own strengths and weaknesses which makes the game more interesting and challenging.
