Chess or Ornament Stand

This storage container is designed specifically to store a chess set in an eye-catching way. The chess pieces are artfully arranged on a spiral series of shelves, giving it a visually appealing presentation. To tailor this design to meet your exact needs, you will need to adjust the scale - as far as I can tell, the STL file that comes with it is pretty small. This particular design was crafted to perfectly match the dimensions of a standard square chess set available at: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:34017 Here are the step-by-step instructions: This project does not require any form of support or raft to complete it properly. When printing out this example, you should get dimensions that measure 150mm in height, width and length. In the case of the photos displayed here, they were printed on a Rep 2, which is actually larger than what the Makerware software suggests as the maximum size allowed. Nevertheless, they still print out just fine, apart from the occasional occurrence of some stringy artifacts visible on the upper shelf - the reason behind this is yet unknown. Update: It appears that I have finally discovered the issue with the top layer of the print job, and it's because the part shrinks in size all of a sudden without getting enough time to cool down. After making a change from Makerware to Simplify3D, I found that using this new program does indeed solve the problem since it enables parts to be printed out more slowly when they are small in size. Moreover, to improve print quality, I use an ordinary house fan once the smaller parts reach completion - that proves to be very helpful. To ensure a perfect fit for your chess set, you'll need to resize this model as I initially stated - as far as I know, it comes in quite small dimensions from the get-go.
