Chess-checkers Board - toolpath painting

Make a beautiful chess board using toolpath painting to add patterns into the 1st layer of the print. I am playing with the concept of using the toolpath to add details to the finished model, and I'm calling that "toolpath painting." You can add details inside a solid colored area with this technique. I have shared openSCAD code so you can easily change the patterns and dimensions of the board. If the files I have shared don't fit your print bed then use openSCAD and the video tutorial to make your own files. I have also included 3 sets of STL files: 1. TEST print. These are the 3 files with names starting with "Test_layer1is0.5mm_xxx.STL." PLEASE SCALE THESE FILES in the Z direction only, you want only a single layer print. As the name suggests these files are 0.5mm in the Z direction if that is the height of your 1st layer no scaling needed. These files form a 2x4 grid with stars ranging from 3-points to 10-points. Use these if you want to test your slicer settings and PLA colors. These is no body or backing file, these are only a single layer. 2. Chess board for 0.8mm Nozzle. These are the 9 files with names starting with "layer1is0.6mm_noz8_xxx.STL." These files form a 4x4 grid with 8-point stars, your bed will need to fit a 185.2x185.2mm object to print these. You should use a 0.6mm 1st layer height in your slicer. 3. Chess board for 0.4mm Nozzle. These are the 9 files with names starting with "layer1is0.3mm_noz4_xxx.STL." These files form a 4x4 grid with 8-point stars, your bed will need to fit a 185.2x185.2mm object to print these. You should use a 0.3mm 1st layer height in your slicer. Please see my video for full instructions on how you can print the board pictured here and how you can easily use my openSCAD code to make your own custom chess board. https://youtu.be/Wq9vazu7crU Please let me know how your prints turn out and post pics. I love seeing other's experiments and results. I think toolpath painting is new so let's have fun with this technique and share results!
