I designed a modular chessboard consisting of four interlocking puzzle pieces that can be combined to exceed the boundaries of my original print area. The board comprises two identical pieces, carefully crafted for symmetry along the diagonal axis. Each piece has been engineered to fit perfectly with its counterpart, ensuring seamless assembly and stability. To accommodate color changes without the need for a dual extruder, I deliberately raised each square by 0.6mm above the base. This design allows for effortless transitions between colors using colorprint technology, which is programmed to switch at exactly 2.2mm. The optimal layer height for this print is 0.2mm. Initially, the unscaled board measures a compact 8" x 8". To achieve the desired size, I enlarged each piece by 50% in both the x and y directions, resulting in an impressive scale-up. The fit of the puzzle pieces remains remarkably precise at this larger size.
