The chessboard is a 64-square grid divided into eight rows and eight columns, with each square assigned a unique coordinate based on its position. A standard game of chess begins with the setup of the pieces on the board, with each player controlling 16 pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns. The objective is to checkmate your opponent's king by attacking it in such a way that they cannot move out of capture. The game starts with white moving first, followed by black responding. Players take turns moving one piece at a time, with certain moves allowed for each type of piece. Pieces can only move horizontally or vertically, except for the knight, which moves in an L-shape.
