# A Cheshire Collimator # An easy tool to collimate your Newtonian telescope. I love this tool. I can check the primary mirror collimation during the day or in the dark with the aid of a headlamp. ## Optional Crosshairs ## You can add crosshairs if you like. For example, you can glue on a clear plastic on the end of the collaborator and draw the cross hairs on it. For Collimating just the primary mirror, the crosshairs are not actually necessary. Without them, this functions like a collimator cap, but usable at night. ## How to Use ## Just align the dark spot (collimator pinhole) with the mirror center mark (often a circle). For a complete guide on collimating everything see the [Collimation Guide by Astro Baby](https://www.astro-baby.com/astrobaby/help/collimation-guide-newtonian-reflector/).
