Chemistry
thingiverse
This is an organic chemistry set I've crafted for students of various skill levels. This basic kit enables the construction of carbon-based molecules, using everyday materials found in most classrooms. The set includes carbon atoms (black), oxygen or Group 16 atoms (red), hydrogen atoms (white), and Group 17 atoms (blue). It also features connector pieces designed to make building molecules easier. To create this chemistry set, I turned to Tinkercad.com, where I built individual atoms by changing the color and number of holes based on their valence electrons. A helpful hint is that these components are meant to be glued together. This project allows students to learn how to construct organic molecules such as hydrocarbons, substituted hydrocarbons, alcohols, and organic acids. Suitable for 7th-grade students and up, this chemistry set can be adapted by changing the colors or materials used. Simply print out the pieces and build your chosen molecule - it's that simple. With this project, students should gain a solid understanding of how to create balanced organic molecules and grasp the concept of valence electrons.
