Cheese grater crank
thingiverse
In 2003, my cheese grater's crank broke, inspiring me to create a new part during Christmas holidays. I designed an improved version with a turnable crank grip and built it in Alumide on a laser-sintering machine. This innovative creation has never broken since its creation on Jan 1st, 2004. If you know of earlier documented cases, please share. To create movable elements for laser-sintering, choose a gap width of 0.25 to 0.3mm and minimize bearing surfaces for easy removal of loose powder. For a round axis, consider designing 3 small bearing surfaces at 120° intervals instead of using a circular cross-section.
